Yuan

'源' (Yuan) comes from a traditional Chinese proverb which translates in English as "do not forget the source of your good fortune." Yuan is a look at the rural floating fishing community of Xiapu county in the Fuijan Province of China, and the livelihood of the people there. The story is told through the eyes of Ye Qinqi, a hard-working father who must live at sea, away from his six year old son, in order to provide for his family.

The short documentary was created for the Academy for International Communication of Chinese Culture in an effort to better bridge the gap between Eastern and Western values. Yuan was awarded third place at the 2016 Looking China Film Festival and Best Short Doc at the 2016 Cross-Strait Short Film Festival in Taiwan.
